Goals have become an integral part of family, business, and recreational life. Goals provide clarity and make it easy for you to move in the right direction. SMART goal setting is a system designed to help you set the right goals and achieve them easily. It helps you focus your efforts toward new accomplishments and stay motivated along the way.
SMART is an acronym that stands for:
The SMART system helps you focus on specific results and see exactly what you need to achieve by using action verbs and specific milestones. For example, instead of setting a goal of “I want more sales,” it’s clearer to say, “I am going to increase the sales by 30%.” This SMART goal is both a specific and time-bound goal. Now it looks like a SMART goal that is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound.
Here’s another SMART goal example:
“We will hire 5 new employees for the recruiting team over the next four months, by May 15.”
This goal is specific: 5 employees for the recruiting team.
It’s measurable: It states exactly how many employees and for what team the company needs to hire.
Achievable: It’s totally realistic because 5 new people in four months is a doable task.
Relevant: The company needs to grow faster so it needs more people who’ll do recruiting.
Time-bound: The goal has an exact deadline – May 15.
Have a list of objectives you want to achieve? Now it’s time to upgrade your goals and write smart goals that will help you set, achieve goals and improve your life.
The SMART goal setting system will help avoid the mistakes made while setting the general and generic goals that lack specificity, relevance, and attainability.
Finally, find an Accountability Partner, such as a mentor, friend or spouse, to share your SMART goals. The Accountability Partner will help guide you and stay motivated and focused to achieve your goals.
Use SMART goals to accomplish new heights!
